General Description Originated from Tasmania, Australia. The name Tasmanian Oak was originally used by early European timber workers who believed the eucalypts showed the same strength as English Oak. Tasmanian oak is thirty-five percent harder than teak, just slightly softer than white oak (about one percent), seven percent softer than hard maple, thirty percent softer than jarrah, and about sixty-one percent as hard as santos mahogany's ranking of 2200.
